I have been acting as the PTL on Monasca for several releases and
excited about the more wide-spread adoption that is occuring
for Monasca, as well as the rest of OpenStack.
I'm amazed and humbled by the contributions from the OpenStack
community. There are many reviews that involve Monasca completely
outside of our project and one's that we aren't engaged in. There have
also been new deployments by companies outside of the core developers
working on Monasca.
There are contributors involved with Monasca that are now keeping the
project on course in the community, taking on a lot of the infra tasks
for the project, which I have had a history of not being as diligent
about:-) But, we now have an official release manager for Monasca,
who does a fantastic job!
There are also reviewers, that have also been surpassing me recently
in quality and quantity of reviews. Your contributions haven't gone
unnoticed by me and I've been thinking that someone else might
make a better PTL.
However, we hadn't really discussed/prepared for that. Therefore, I
would like to propose my candidacy for PTL during the Pike release cycle.
I'll be relying heavily on others in the community to help me out in that
endeavor, but I'm more than happy to continue on and will try to keep up
with the pace.
My goals and objectives for the project in the Pike release are as
follows:
* Add new features to enhance the query capabilities in Monasca, such as
new statistics functions. For example, we've been discussing a new
Monasca Query Language (MQL) and supporting capabilities such as rates,
histograms, percentiles and many other functions.
* Add new alarm manageability features to reduce alarm fatigue, such as
the ability to silence/inhibit alarms and group alarms.
* Integrate Monasca with the container and Kubernetes ecosystem. We are
already well underway in this area, and in addition to becoming more
integrated with Kubernetes, this also makes an install of Monasca very
simple.
* Continue to enhance the Logging-as-a-Service capabilities in the form
of the Kibana integration and support for Keystone and multi-tenancy, as
log well as extending the API for querying.
* Transition completely to the Python API. Most of the development for
the API recently has been on the Python API, and for a lot of the
potential new development listed above, that would presumably only be
done on the Python API.
There are many other areas that deserve mentioning, but I'll
leave it at that.
Thank you for all the great work!
Roland Hochmuth
